Fugitives Nominated for Canadian Folk Music Award

We're very honoured to get a nod for Vocal Ensemble of the Year at this year's Canadian Folk Music Awards for our recent album, Everything WIll Happen. We're a band that's fortunate to get to have a lot of amazing vocalists joining us onstage at different times, including Chris Suen, Ali Romanow, Kathleen Nisbet, Steve Charles, Trish Foster, Matt Elwood, plus the Fugitives that joined us on the recordings, Ben Elliott, Derek Kehler and Sahra Featherstone. Thanks, everyone! http://folkawards.ca/2014/09/canadian-folk-music-awards-nominees-announced-2/

Big Vancouver Show! with fringe percussion & Hannah epperson at st james hall, sep 13th

What happens when a guitar feedback loop is replaced with a water-dipped gong? What if a drum kit was replaced by firebells, rusty bread pans and a timpani drum or a harmony line by a handsaw? These are some of the questions innovative singer-songwriter Adrian Glynn and Vancouver’s premiere new music percussion ensemble, Fringe Percussion, will answer in their first live performance together at St James Hall on September 13th.

Europe Tour and a WCMA Nomination!

Hello and howdy from Londontown; I am here on tour with The Fugitives- we just did three glorious weeks in Germany, Switzerland, Holland and Austria and are now on week two of our UK tour. We have two shows in London coming up, (as well as a few other smaller towns) and our last performance of the tour will be at Glastonbury Festival on June 27th. (You can see all our dates here).

We were also quite chuffed (you can tell I’m in England) to be nominated recently for a Western Canadian Music Award for Roots Album of the Year for our latest record, Everything Will Happen.  Very chuffed indeed.

We have a few summer festivals coming up and then I will be heading back into the studio in the Fall to record a new solo record, at long last.

I hope your summer is off to a brave start. I’m off to the Tate to get all cultured and the like.

Love Glynn

Glastonbury, Buffy St Marie and NYC

Greetings from Glynn and a happy somewhat newish year to you and your faces, I hope your resolve is strong as ever as February stumbles toward Bethlehem to be born. Hi, how are you.  I’m on a plane in a winter coat and moccasins, I’m flying to New York where it is even colder but I’m excited in my belly. I’ll be part of a great show called Communion on February 4th (performing solo at Rockwood Hall, 7pm). And New York is usually a good place to hang out. And then there’s the Olympics.. well, we all know about what’s going on with Russia’s new anti-gay laws. The Fugitives were inspired by the story of Dmitry Isakov, the first Russian to be arrested under these bigoted practices, who went back to hold up a sign in his town square even after being arrested and beaten for it the day before. We wrote a song about his brave story and got some people in our community together to make a little video for it- watch it here. Hopefully, with the world’s eyes on Sochi, some pressure for change will begin to mount as well as a further awareness of these sorts of homophobic practices around the world that simply can’t be tolerated any longer.

Ok, that was pretty serious. But there’s fun news in my world, too. As the Fugitives continue to support our recent release, Everything Will Happen, we’ve got some exciting stuff coming up. In March, we’ll be opening for the legendary Canadian folk-singer, Buffy St Marie, at theatres across the prairies. In May and June we will be touring Germany, Switzerland and the UK, capping it off with a performance at the Glastonbury Festival(!). Fun times indeed. Check out our tour page for dates, everything will be up there soon.

And now back to eating small sacks of salted snacks and finding the balance between hydrating my dry throat and not having to get up to climb over people for a bathroom break every 15 minutes. Ah, cross-continental flying. A wonder of human patience and resolve (there’s that word again).

Happy February! Onward and awkward.

The New Fugitives Record "Everything Will Happen"- Released and Available Today!

It's been a long time coming but the day is finally here- the new Fugitives record Everything Will Happen is officially out today! It's been a labour of love and the combination of some incredible musicians and amazing production from our producer John Critchley and tons of support from our label Light Organ Records- anyway, we're really proud to finally have it out there. Here are the listening and purchasing links. Have at you!

Canada, Here We Come

Hi friends and neighbours and cooks and bakers and long lost brothers;

This is Glynn coming to you pre-recorded from somewhere in Toronto from whence my band, the Fugitives, are set to launch their new album and cross-Canada tour.

We're pretty excited about this record- our designer Colin Craig went crazy and made one of the most beautiful CD packages I've ever laid hands on. And we also happen to be very proud of the music as well. The album is out October 22nd (and will be available for purchase here on that day) but for now you can sit there and listen to the whole thing for FREE if you just go here.

We're backing this up with a full Canada-wide tour which gets under way next week- coast to coast with everything in between. All the dates are here.

In the meantime, I'm working away on new Glynn songs and making rudimentary battle plans for the next album. more on that to come. Special thanks to everyone who came out to the solo show at St James in September, that was a magic one for me.

Keep humming along like late-night traffic and don't worry too much about which exit.

 With love in service,

The Fugitives Announce 'Everything Will Happen' Album, Map Out Canadian Tour

By Gregory AdamsFolk-flecked Vancouver band the Fugitives ran into problems this summer when their Bigger Than Luck EP suffered a pressing plant mix-up with a weight loss instructional disc, but they are no doubt keeping their fingers crossed that things go as planned for their newly announced Everything Will Happen LP. Barring any colossal blunders, the album arrives October 22 through Light Organ Records.

A press release notes that the project's Brendan McLeod and Adrian Glynn had headed out to Toronto to record three years' worth of songs with producer John Critchley (Dan Mangan, Elliot Brood). This trip yielded both Better Than Luck and Everything Will Happen, which is described as featuring their "fullest sound to date."

"While it's fun sitting around our living rooms writing horn lines with our mouths, it wouldn't sound too great on a recording," Glynn said in a statement of the album's evolution. "Thank God for talented friends."

The band's current arsenal of collaborators includes Mark Berube, CR Avery, violinist Hannah Epperson, multi-instrumentalist Steve Charles, and Benjamin Elliot.

While featuring previously released EP tracks "Bigger Than Luck" and "Old Mistakes," the album also includes nine new tunes. You can check out one of the fresher cuts, "My My," in a slow-mo, bathtub-set music video. You'll find the clip down below, where you'll also find the album's tracklisting and a stretch of cross-Canada tour dates.

Glynn also has a solo show lined up for St. James Hall in Vancouver on September 19.

Everything Will Happen:

1. Love Affairs 2. Old Mistakes 3. Wilderness Years 4. Study 5. Bigger Than Luck 6. Everything That's Going To Happen 7. Ring 8. Windows 9. Dinner With Clara Haber 10. My My 11. If This Is It

Rocky Mountain Highs

News! Thanks to all y'all who caught Steel Audrey and I on our Western Canada tour last month- we had an unforgettable three weeks of great shows and rocky mountain highs and met some fantastic people. Including you (maybe).

Next up? There's a couple Vancouver shows coming up for me- Aug 20th at the Jericho Folk Club and Sep 19th at St. James Hall with Jasper Sloan Yip. The rest of the Fall I'll be touring Canada with The Fugitives to support our new record, Everything Will Happen. Dates for the Fugitives tour will be going up shortly at www.fugitives.ca.

Speaking of the Fugitives, we put out a little appetizer EP in July called Bigger Than Luck, and it's been getting a lot of love on the CBC and has been in the top 10 on the Canadian college folk charts (yah!) for several weeks as well as cracking the CMJ charts in the U.S. If you'd like to hear/get the new stuff, go HERE (digital) or HERE (physical). If you'd like to read about our new CD getting mixed up with an audio weight loss instructional CD (yes, really), go HERE.

Other than that? I'm writing new tunes. I'm getting mad at Russia for being so bigoted and the Olympics for being complacent weaklings (check out Stephen Fry's letter about it here). I'm taking advantage of the little Vancouver summer I'm around for and doing Vancouverish things like canoeing to see movies (movies like Vinterberg's The Hunt, which is one of the best films I've seen in a long while). And otherwise getting along.

Anyway, happy August, friends. See you in the Fall.

Western Solo Tour Continues and new Fugitives music is released!

Hey all, I'm sitting in balmy Edmonton, very excited to announce that our new Fugitives EP, "Bigger Than Luck", has just been released to the world! You can find it on iTunes here and physical copies are available here. We're really excited about this and very indebted to our producer, John Critchley, and all the amazing musicians and gang-vocal singers who helped us out on this one. I'm mid-way through my Western tour with Steel Audrey. We had a wonderful time in Northern BC playing shows and seeing northern lights and camping beside lakes. Now we're into the Alberta stretch with an Edmonton show tonight and a few Calgary shows on the weekend (check out the Tour page for details). We'll be swinging back through Southern BC next week.

Now to find a good whisky store in Edmonchuk..

July Western Canada Tour

Hey friends;  Very excited to be heading out to Western Canada again on a solo tour. Steel Audrey and I will be looping up through Northern BC, down through Alberta and back through the Kootenays and the Okanagan through July. See the Tour page for details. In other news, The Fugitives have released their single "Bigger Than Luck" here on iTunes with the full EP of the same name set to release on July 16th. CBCMusic picked it as one of their 8 albums to check out this month and the song has been added into rotation on CBC's Radio1 and Radio3 so look out for it.

See you out there somewheres. For now, enjoy our take on the Thelma and Louise poster. We plan to get into some trouble on this tour...
